No sign?<\/strong>
\n\tIn three Gospels<\/em> the question came to Jesus to do a miracle, a sign. And in all occasions Jesus was disgusted about it. Why?<\/p>\n <\/p>\n
The power of unbelief<\/strong>
\n\tJesus was disgusted as the question came in all occasions from Pharisees who didn’t want to believe in Him. Even on the cross they shouted “Come down from the cross that we may believe!” If someone has decided to reject the faith for any reason one will reject any aspect of that faith every time. So did the Pharisees in general and their question was a sign of their unbelief. If they had looked around, had spoken with the healed, they would have known enough. Jesus called them the generation that would not be given a sign. Apart from one sign: after his departure from life they would be confronted with his resurrection<\/em>. Just as Jonah was three days and nights in the great fish, Jesus would be in the grave for only three days and nights.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n
Meanings of generation<\/em><\/strong>
\n\tThe critic sees a discrepancy in the information in all the Gospels that Jesus did many signs and the few sayings of Jesus that he didn’t want to give a sign to this (evil) generation. The critic overlooks the two meanings of the word generation<\/em>. 1. (vertical generation) Descendants of someone or of something; 2. (horizontal generation) All people belonging to a certain period of time (often: those who live now).<\/p>\n <\/p>\n
Separation<\/strong>
\n\tJesus spoke to the Pharisees<\/em> as descendants of evil, who had hardened their heart (Mark 8:17); meaning 1. Here, Jesus didn’t use the word referring to all the people of Israel<\/em> in whose midst he performed his miracles; meaning 2.
\n\tSo there can be no misunderstanding. The Pharisees would never see any miracle, due to their hardened heart and not as a result of Jesus’ inability. They had forgotten what Isaiah (59:2) had said: “But your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God.”<\/em><\/p>\n <\/p>\n
At the right hand of God<\/strong>
\n\tAfter Jesus’ resurrection the Pharisees would be confronted with a new generation of people that would confess about Jesus being alive at the right hand of God. And this generation of believers would never disappear on earth. Just as nobody had controlled Jonah being in the great fish, as was reported in ‘their law’. In the same way there would be no eyewitness when Jesus actually resurrected and yet forever it is God’s sign for mankind for those who believe.<\/p>\nNo Bible Contradiction <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n
