\n\tThe state of marriage in the Bible seems to pose a difficulty for many people. Sadly enough many people have lost their compass (their heart). Let’s look at the problem for the critic.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The Yes-statement<\/strong>
\n\tVery wrong<\/em>. This (1 Corinthians 7:12-14 ) is said about a couple already married<\/em> before they heard the Gospel. So the question “Is it OK to marry an unbeliever?” is absolutely not to the point, as they are already married. The Gospel does not encourage couples to divorce but to remain together in the calling in which they were before the Gospel came.<\/p>\n

A marriage before the Gospel came, was seen as a calling of God “Each man\/woman must remain in that condition in which he was called.” (1 Corinthians 7:20) It was seen as natural in a good relationship that the spouse, seeing the blessing of the faith would also embrace the Gospel and believe. (1 Peter 3:1-20)<\/p>\n

The No-statement<\/strong>
\n\tRight<\/em>. It was\/is a rule in Christianity not to marry an unbeliever. In these circumstances, where one person does not share faith in the Gospel there is no common ground for the marriage. 
\n\tMarrying an unbelieving woman or man does not give the assurance that she\/he will at some point come to believe; on the contrary<\/em> if one rejects the faith of a partner before marrying, there is little chance that this will change after marrying.<\/p>\n

In the first instance there is already a marriage, while in the second there is not. That’s the difference and it is not justifiable to compare the two situations and conclude there is a contradiction.            <\/p>\n
