The Problem
Is Jesus peaceful? The trigger in this question is that we should reply a priori: Yes, of course He is. However reading all the texts we discover that it is not as easy as that.

List 1, Yes.
The first list of the critic “Yes, Jesus is peaceful” makes plain that it is a certain peace Jesus brings: spiritual peace. He even prohibits Peter to defend him with a sword: “Put your sword back …” Jesus accepts being arrested by soldiers.

List 2, No.
The second list is remarkably smaller, only 4 texts to prove that Jesus is not peaceful. However, none of them is to the point.

Matthew 10:34

Jesus is not bringing peace on earth, but in hearts. Many will ignore and even oppose this and live a warlike life on earth. Jesus’ determination for his peace will not end. He remains peaceful and this will indirectly bring war through his opponents.

Luke 12:51-52

Idem

Luke 22:36

Jesus’ disciples are ordered to take swords with them to fulfil a prophecy of Isaiah that the Messiah will be counted among criminals. They took two knives from the Passover meal with them which was enough. Jesus didn’t have a knife. He remained peaceful.

Revelation 19:11

Final confrontation of the war Jesus announced is still in progress, since his Ascension into heaven until the last Day of Judgement (armies assembled to make war against Him who sat on the horse, 19:19). Jesus remains peaceful, not making war, only being forced to wage war.
